Brightling Middle School's resident rule-breaker, Oliver Zahn, has finally met his match: his new homeroom teacher, Mr. Aidact. He's stiff, never smiles, calls the students "pupils," and somehow catches Oliver before he can pull off any of his signature pranks. Naturally, Oliver and his best friend, Nathan, decide it's time to show Mr. Aidact who's really in charge.

But the more they watch him, the stranger things get. Mr. Aidact remembers endless trivia and song lyrics, suddenly becomes an expert field hockey coach, and takes on every extra duty without complaint. Soon he's the most popular teacher at school - but Oliver and Nathan are convinced something isn't right. What exactly is the deal with Mr. Aidact?
