Nadya had three mothers: the one who gave her life, the country that harmed her, and the one who raised her.

She never felt less than whole until her adoptive parents forced a prosthetic arm on her a replacement for the one missing since birth. It was bulky, uncomfortable, and not her.

Confused and frustrated, Nadya began to wander. One day, she fell through a door into Belyrreka, the Land Beneath the Lake. This watery world held child-eating amphibians, giant turtles, and ships that sailed both above and below the surface. Here, Nadya found acceptance as a Drowned Girl, embraced by the river and its people.

But even in Belyrreka, she faced dangers and challenges that would test everything she had come to treasure.
