Wombat Waiting

Wombat may not actually be a wombat, but the name fits the singed, ash-covered stray rescued after a devastating fire tears through a community. And Wombat knows one thing for certain: she's a "destiny dog." A little Voice inside keeps telling her that somewhere out there is the special person she's meant to find.

While the town begins to recover, Wombat settles onto a bench outside a makeshift community center that also shelters animals from a burned wildlife sanctuary, including an elderly fruit bat and a young saw-whet owl. No matter how many people try to move her, Wombat refuses to budge. She's clearly waiting for someone - but who, and did they survive the fire?
