Campbell Cole has a soft spot for stray animals, especially because she knows what it feels like to be lonely. Her father, the director of the local animal control, keeps people at a distance, making Campbell even more determined to help those with no one else to turn to.

After witnessing an adorable dog being abandoned, Campbell knows she can't tell her father, who might take the pup to a shelter where newly rescued animals have only three days to be adopted. With help from her best friend, Luz, and Luz's father, an army veteran, Campbell works to earn the dog's trust and find a solution that could give the pup - and others - a brighter future.
