Many companies are shipping in cheaper boxes and using cheap packing tape, so items arrive damaged. These items may seem trivial, but to me they say you are a company that values their customers. If you're looking for a barcode scanner type system, vernonlibrarysupplies.com has a "Library-in-a-Box" package that might work for you. It's a little pricey, but considering how many books you are losing and the time you are spending on check-in/check-out, it might be worth the investment.

Though I have not seen the "Library-in-a Box" in action, I can highly recommend Vernon as a company that offers superior customer service and stands 100% behind their products.
